Serious problems with XP updates (10.15.09)

I installed the latest series of critical system updates to XP SP3 on
10.15.09 (most recent prior update was 9.9.09). I had two problems - 1) All
of my networked files that were "always available offline" were deleted
locally and 2) I can no longer access networks from behind my d-link router,
or even when just using a hub. I can access the internet directly from my
cable modem. I tested the hub and the router with other PCs on my local
network, and the problem is definitely with this PC, not the hardware. I
tried a system restore, and it did not resolve the problem.

Anyone have this issue or know how to resolve it?

I just had a very similar problem. Dorked around it for a couple of hours to
no avail. Took a while to figure out that the only thing changed was the
critical system updates. I restored before the updates & it now works for
me. Can you say Auto-Update=off?

Without knowing which of the many updates released this month (or optional
HDW updates) you installed, I can only suggest that you...

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999).

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

Yesterday there were 14 updates automatically installed on my computer. Now
it takes a total of 8 FULL minutes on start up or reboot before the icons
show on my desktop.. all I have is a bright blue screen, and then it finally
brings up the desktop! This did NOT happen prior to those updates!! And
it's made things slow down drastically!
Operating System: Windows XP SP2

This happens every time I've had to reboot or turn on the machine.

I am not on a network or anything like that.. just a home desktop computer.
Operating System: Windows XP
I emailed MS with this problem and all they basically did was refer me to
these newsgroups.. so much for their admitting there IS a problem and/or
fixing it!
