I am having some serious problems with my Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x64
updates. This machine has Exchange Server 2007 installed on it.

When I view the microsoft update history I can see that it fails on the
following update:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family
Update (KB951847) x64

I then use the System Update Readiness Tool (Windows6.0-KB947821-v4-x64.msu)
and get the following errors:

(f) CBS MUM
Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Package_6_for_KB948609~31bf3856 ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.6001.3053.mum
(f) CBS MUM
Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB948609_server_0~3 1bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.6001.3053.mum
(f) CBS MUM
Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB948609_server~31b f3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.6001.3053.mum
(f) CBS MUM
Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB948609~31bf3856ad 364e35~amd64~~6.0.6001.3053.mum

I've looked for the .cab files for KB948609 so that i could extract those
..mum files and have come up empty.. I've also looked on other x64 server 2008
Enterprise machines in the c:\windows\servicing\packages folder and they
don't have the listed .mum files.

When I go to "View Installed Updates" I do not see ANY updates for KBs, I do
see "Updated Rollups for Exchange Server 2007...", but no KB updates, so I
can't try to uninstall KB948609

When I go into Server Manager my "Roles Summary" and "Features Summary" give
an error and I can't install any roles or features. The error is:

"Unexpected error refreshing Server Manger: No signature was present in the
subject. (Exception from HRESULT 0x800B0100)"

Please, any help?!

One more note that I forgot to add..

I ran "sfc /VERIFYONLY"

and it came back with no problems

After reading some more, I found that you can download the dotnetfx35.exe
from microsoft, then extraxt the files in the exe using

dotnetfx35.exe /x

from the command line. Then I went into the extracted folder and found the
file

wcu\dotNetMSP\x64\NetFX2.0-KB948609-V6001-x64.msu

I change the .msu to a .cab file and extracted the

Windows6.0-KB948609-v6001-x64.cab

file that was within.. then I opened that cab and extracted

Package_6_for_KB948609~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0 .6001.3053.mum
Package_for_KB948609_server_0~31bf3856ad364e35~amd 64~~6.0.6001.3053.mum
Package_for_KB948609_server~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64 ~~6.0.6001.3053.mum

The only one that I couldn't find was

Package_for_KB948609~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.6 001.3053.mum

Anyone know why that one isn't in there? or where I can find it?? I'm
working on setting up another x64 server machine to see if i can leech the
file from it, but if there is an easier way I'd like to know..

I installed another copy of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x64 on a virtual
machine on another 2008 Server hypervisor. Did a fresh round of updates on
that machine and the missing

Package_for_KB948609~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.6 001.3053.mum

was on the machine in the %windir%\servicing\packages folder

copied all the missing files over to the new machine (Note: had to take
ownership of the %windir%\servicing\packages folder to give administrator
write permisions.. give ownership back by setting NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller
as owner)

One other note.. the .mum files were missing, but also the .cat files needed
to be copied over as well, so got those from the fresh server as well..

Now my Roles and Features work again! I'll try to do update to SP2 and .NET
Framework later
