Hi Richard,
Thanks for posting here! For your description, I understand that the issue is: the offline files synchronize failed when you changed server. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know. Based on my experienced, this issue may occur because you made changes to a file or files in the redirected folder while offline and those changes have not been synchronized with the network version. If the original network version of the redirected folder is not available to synchronize the changes, the folder is unable to be redirected to a new network location. To resolve the issue, please reset the offline files cache or database on each client that is affected. Please refer to the following KB article to do reset offline files cache: 230738 How to Restart the Offline Files Cache/Database http://support.microsoft.com/?id=230738 Try to test, how about the result? If the issue persists, please help me collect some information to further troubleshooting: 1. Can you find any error log in Event Viewer in server side or in the problematic side? 2. Do you get any error message when you synchronized offline files? If so, give me screen shot of the error message. And send to v- For your reference: To edit synchronization settings, you can do as follows: 1. To synchronize individual files, folders, or Web pages in Microsoft Windows Explorer, My Computer, or Microsoft Internet Explorer, click the item that you want to synchronize, and then, on the Tools menu, click Synchronize. 2. Click Setup button to open Synchronization Settings and you can configure as your requirement. *Note: You must share files before you can use them with Offline Files. Once shared, the files appear in the list of items that are available for synchronization. To set up your computer to use Offline Files, you can refer to the steps£» 1. Open My Computer. 2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options. 3. Click the Offline Files tab, select the Enable Offline Files check box, and then do one of the following: To do a full synchronization, select the Synchronize all offline files before logging off check box. To do a quick synchronization, clear the Synchronize all offline files before logging off check box. *Notes: a. A full synchronization ensures that you have the most current versions of every network file that has been made available offline. A quick synchronization ensures that you have complete versions of all of your offline files, but they might not be the most current versions. b. Enable Offline Files is controlled through Group Policy, as is Amount of disk space to use for temporary offline files. To adjust these settings, you must have the appropriate administrative credentials. c. By default, Offline Files is enabled in Windows XP Professional. However, by default, Offline Files is not enabled in the Windows Server 2003 family because Terminal Services is not compatible with Offline Files. To enable Offline Files on a server running Windows Server 2003, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Remote tab. Under Remote Desktop, clear the Allow users to connect remotely to this computer check box, click OK, and then follow the steps in this procedure. d. Even if your computer is configured to use Offline Files, you must still select the network files and folders that you want to make available offline. To view a list of all of the network files that are available offline, in the Folder Options dialog box, click the Offline Files tab, click View Files, and view the files in the Offline Files Folder. Hope above information helps! I am currently standing by for you about the test result. I am always happy to be of further assistance. I am looking forward to you! Have a nice weekend! Jenny,
I have only just bought a laptop and set up a small business/home network. I want to use the offline files and sync facility but can't seem to make it available. I am using XP Home. The process you described about Folder Options and clicking the Offline Files tab doesn't work for me because there is no such tab visible. Please, how can I get this working? Hi Maurice,
Thanks for posting here! Windows XP Home Edition doesn''t support the Offline Files feature. In fact, this feature is often used in a business scenario. Windows XP Home Edition focuses on home users, so it unfortunately does not include this feature. For your convenience, you can refer to the following article to view Windows XP Home Edition features: Corporate Management http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...l/reskit/en-us /Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prhh_n ot_ubgb.asp Also, you may more information about the differences between Home Edition and Professional Edition by reading the following article: Comparing Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional Feature Differences http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...l/reskit/en-us /Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prhh_n ot_ubgb.asp Important =============== Computers running Windows XP Home Edition cannot join corporate domains. For this reason, features that require machine accounts within a domain, such as Group Policy, are not available in Windows XP Home Edition. =============== Hope this information helps! Jenny,
My issue is similar to Richards. On one of the clients, I’m getting an error when trying to synchronize: “offline files: (\\<servername>\users on <servername>): The server disk is full.†However, the server disk is not full. I’m thinking this has to do with a setting in the GPO. You said: “ Enable Offline Files is controlled through Group Policy, as is Amount of disk space to use for temporary offline files. To adjust these settings, you must have the appropriate administrative credentials.†What GPO controls this? Thanks, ""Jenny wu [MSFT]"" wrote: > Hi Richard, > > Thanks for posting here! > > For your description, I understand that the issue is: the offline files > synchronize failed when you changed server. sounds to me like you're hitting a quota issue.
Go to the server, rt-clk the drive the share is on, on the quota tab, quota entries, how much space is allocated to the user and is this near the limit? Hi Sean,
Thanks for posting here! Also thanks for SuperGumby's input. Regarding to your post, your issue should be caused by Disk Quotas. To resolve the issue, please try to assign more disk space to the user account or clean up the user profiles on the shared disk. To make things clear, you can go to the server box where the shared resource put using Administrator account to check the disk space usage of users. The detail steps: 1. Open My Computer. 2. Right-click the disk volume for which you are sharing offline files, and then click Properties. 3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Quota tab. 4. On the Quota tab, click Quota Entities button to view every entries disk apace usage report. To change disk quotas: On the Quota tab, input larger number of limit disk space and then click OK to apply. **Note: To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated an assignment of administrative responsibility to a user, computer, group, or organization. For Active Directory, an assignment of responsibility that allows users without administrative credentials to complete specific administrative tasks or to manage specific directory objects. Responsibility is assigned through membership in a security group, the Delegation of Control Wizard, or Group Policy settings. Besides I would like to suggest you clean up/manage users profiles, do defragment process in a period time. Try to test to see if the issue be fixed. If you have further concern or question on the issue, please create a new thread to post your question in the newsgroup. the reason I suggest you post different incidents in different threads to make your issue resolved efficiently and keep the thread clean for others can track. I am happy to be asssistanc of you! Have a nice weekend! Hi Sean,
Thanks for your update! I mean you can do a defragment process (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter) in regular time on the server box. Additionally, the Administrator reminds domain users manage their own profiles and delete unwanted files or move to local computers. If the administrator has permissions, he/she also can do that to free up the individual user disk usage space. If you have any further concern on the issue please feel free to let me know. I am happy to be assistance of you! Have a nice day!
