Hi

I'm planning to set up a Windows 2008 Server core install in a small
department (2+ users), and doing it as a virtual machine. How much memory
would this need to have sufficient resources. I've search for some
information on this, but only found Microsoft's general recommendations.
The installation will only to simple IIS stuff, so I don't anticipate a high
load on the install.

/L

Server core IIS role does not include asp.net

But I'd start at 512MB or so. As a VM you should be able to adjust the
Virtual Machine memory allocation as needed. With a basic IIS in server core
I wouldn't expect it to need many more resources than that.

Hello L.,

Choose the minimum from the recommendation as startup and adjust it if you
need more. See here about supported options:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc753802.aspx

The Web Server (IIS) role does not support ASP.NET in Server Core installations.
Because there is no support for managed code, the following IIS features
are not available in Server Core installations:

- IIS-ASPNET
- IIS-NetFxExtensibility
- IIS-ManagementConsole
- IIS-ManagementService
- IIS-LegacySnapIn
- IIS-FTPManagement
- WAS-NetFxEnvironment
- WAS-ConfigurationAPI
