I set up a new win server 2008 r2 file server, made some shares and mapped to
them. In windows xp they look like this:

Shared on 'File Server (fs)' (F

the 'File Server' part appears to be the computer description on the server,
I changed that yesterday, but today the drives still map with the old name.
Is there some other place I have to change that name to get it to change on
workstations?

Remap the drive to pick up the new name. If you have a logon script, in the
beginning of the script, for good practices, disconnect all map drives, then
re-map them. This way all users get a fresh mapping each time, and if
another app or something else had disconnected a mapped drive, and took the
letter, the disconnect command in the script will remove it so it can use
the letter to map it to where it belongs.

OK, new workstations mappings show the correct computer description of the
server, but workstations mapped on the old description still show the old
description, even when you delete and re-do the maping. Any what to change
that?
