Server not found

I've been getting the following error message for the past week and cannot
find a solution for it anywhere.

Server not found

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy,
make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

The only way that I can get a page to load, is if I click the refresh button
multiple times! Brutal.

I'm using ZoneAlarm's firewall since Vista own firewall refused to allow me
to log on to my bank's online website. Nice. Either firewall disabled doesn't
change anything. The problem still exist.

How are you connecting to the internet? Own router via DSL? Also post an
ipconfig /all. Do you buse fixed ip address or DHCP from the router or from
a server?

Hi Meinolf ,

I connect via a Netgear 834GT dsl modem/ router. It has the latest firmware
update. As I mentioned earlier, this is a new issue. My IP address is
obtained dynamically from ISP. Here my information that you requested.

I have also been experiencing the same problem and I'm also using a Netgear
router. Funny thing, if I try the same URL in Opera.... it opens. But not
in IE. If I leave the system alone for awhile it eventually cures itself. A
real PITA.

Mike,

I think the joke is on us, because when I reboot into XP using the same
router and all, it works perfectly well. No error message, just a simple and
functional PC.

I keep checking for Windows Update to fix this, but so far nothin'. Perhaps
SP1.

I've tried rebooting my modem (Netgear 834GT) and it appears to have
alleviated the concerns that I stated earlier. I can't say that this is the
problem, as I haven't done it enough times to confirm this, but so far so
good.

I don't know whether it is the modem/router or Vista. I say this b/c, I've
seen numerous other folks complaining of the same issue and I suspect, they
all don't have the same modem as me.

Unfortunately, I'm still finding the response time to be fairly slow after I
"click" a URL.

Dunno if this helps. Let me know if you have any info relating to this.

Scratch that. Rebooting the modem does nothing to alleviate this!
