Server reset during downloads

Please can someone help me? I have tried four times this morning to
download and save HP Smart Web Printing as suggested on my Problem Reports
and Solutions. Each time about halfway through the download I get the
message "Internet Explorer cannot download Smart_Web_Printing4.0exe from
ftp.hp.com. The connection with the server was reset". Please can you
explain in SIMPLE terms how I can overcome this. The download is to fix an
intermittent problem I have (sometimes on a daily basis) where my Internet
Explorer stops working.

I am not computer literate.

Thanks, JD

Call HP, and when you get anything of this nature to actually download and
install from a HP server, then post back.

That's no excuse for asking the same question more than once in more
than one thread.

Your original question has been replied to.

Nonny, I sent in my question as "New", and it was posted in a thread! Sorry
for their mistake.

Don't worry about that - is this what you were looking for?

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...551212&lang=en

(I assume the Vista Version not XP). Downloaded here in seconds from
that location.

Explorer has always been fairly useless for FTP downloads, if you must
use FTP there are free clients out there that do much much better.

Yes, that is the site. I have now tried 6 times with no luck. Each time,
after 30-40% download has been completed, I get the message "Internet
Explorer cannot download smart_web_printing4.0.exe from ftp.hp.com. The
connection with the server was reset".

I have looked at my Internet Explorer defaults and all the Extensions and
Protocols are enabled, including ftp url: File transfer protocol. I then
sent an email to hp.za requesting help to download from HP's server (as per
MR. Arnold). This request has been acknowledged.

What I don't understand is that I have downloaded and installed other much
larger programs from other sites with no problems at all. Why I wanted this
download is that I got a message from Windows in my Problem Reports and
Solutions that this would help with my "Internet Explorer stopped working"
problem. With all this hooha I feel that I could probably live with the
problem though - it is not as bad as it used to be!

Thanks for your input. Suggestions are always welcome and I am learning all
the time! - JD

Hi Charlie, I have downloaded Smart FTP, but have a problem connecting with
my host server. I have put it in as "pop.gmail.com" - is this correct?
Sorry but I said I was a complete novice at this! - JD
