Those of you who are patching servers, do NOT use terminal services.
I was getting all kinds of error messages in my windowsupdate.log file.
So many I couldn't troubleshoot them all. The problems I had were
exactly like many here have stated over and over. All the same error
numbers and messages. The downloads would come in but instantly failed
the installation. SID couldn't be found. Tokens failed. Everything.
Come to find out, the reason why the updates wont work is because I'm
connecting to the servers remotely with Terminal Services.
As soon as I turned on the PC Anywhere service and installed that way,
every single server has been downloading and installing updates without
a single problem.
Rejoice !
I realize not everyone with these issues falls into this category, BUT,
perhaps this is something for the MVP's out there to help troubleshoot.
If I had my guess, it would be some sort of SID or security problem
with the windows update site detecting a profile from term services and
simply didn't like it.
Hope this helps you guys! If it doesn't keep plugging away. A
resolution is out there.
