I'm sure you've seen this question a billion times, but I cannot find it
asked and answered in simple enough terms that I can understand, so I am
going to ask my own question.

I am trying to install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service Pack 1.
I can download it, but it says installation failed, and I cannot figure out
how to get the error to display in my update history. Not sure if this is
pertinent, but I was able to download and install the Office 2003 Service
pack 2. I would be grateful for any advice.

Do you have .Net Framework 1.1 installed (so you can apply its service pack
against it)?

I am assuming that I do. This was an automatic update listed when I checked
for updates. I did a file search and found two instances of it listed.

Sue: I have been in direct contact with the microsoft tech support about
this very same issue for the past few days. They have assures me that this
is not a critical update afterall as they were unable to install it on my
system . Their words, not mine. In fact, if you would like it to stop
showing up as a critical update go to custom and you can get to a feature
which says "do not show this update again"...But it will always be there if
you want to deal with it later. Let me know if you want to discuss this
more....Good luck!

Moonglow,

Thank you so very much for this information. It has been driving me crazy.
I was terrified I was leaving my computer vulnerable to all sorts of things.

Thank you again for the peace of mind.
