Service Pack 2 - failure to install

I have downloaded service pack 2 and Microsoft Update tells me that is has
been successfully installed. However, when I look in system properties in
the control panel it tells me that I have Windows XP, Version 2002 Service
Pack 1 and also I still have an icon in the bottom right corner telling me
that support for service pack 1 is ending with link to download service pack
2. How can I tell whether Service Pack 2 is definitely installed? If it
hasn't been installed, does anyone know what the problem might be?

Don't use the Windows Update web page - instead - download the entire
package and install with it.
