After downloading and commencing Installation, it failed with these error
messages: --- Service Pack 2 Setup Error
§ Unable to read from or write to the database - followed by
§ Service pack 2 installation did not complete - followed by
§ Updates were unable to be successfully installed
The link to the special SP2 Update online response form does not work, so i
am stuck for help. Any ideas?

I have had advice from Microsoft, and the second part of the suggestion cured
the problem. I had to first repair a database, and then delete a faulty log
file. If you contact me directly, I can send the full text of the MS mail
that sorted me out.

Hi

I would think the instructions was to delete/rename the .log files in
the folder C:\Windows\Security\ (and/or C:\Windows\System32\CatRoot2\).

I have created a batch file that does exactly this.

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database"

This fixed worked fine. Downloaded and ran the .bat file. Was getting
"unable to read or write to database" on a clean install of XP Pro -
SP1 applied already, drivers updated.

On a Compaq Presario S3010CL

At any rate, wanted to say thanks!
