I am trying to install Service Pack 2 on Vista, but it just will no
install on my laptop. I have tried all the solutions that are given o
the help, such as using the readiness tool, stand alone installation
uninstalling McAfee, etc. with no luck.

The installation goes through steps 1 and 2 fine, then gets to 100 % o
step 3, bu then it gives me a message "Service pack did not install
Reverting Changes" and after about a hour, I get back into Vista, wher
it gives me a message that installation was unsuccessful and under th
details its says:

ERROR_SERVICE_CANNOT_ACCEPT_CTRL (0x80070425)

I am using a Dell Inspiron 9400.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ian

First, remove all your viruses. Do not use Windows Defender- use an actual
anti-virus program like AVG or AdAware (I don't recommend either Norton or
Symantec, as their anti-virus software is really just another form of adware,
and once it's on your computer, it's almost impossible to remove. You use
Windows, so I can guarantee you get a virus at least once a week. After
removing Vundo or whatever virus/bot, try again.

Unfortunately the OP does not use AVG or Avast...which in fact work
well...he uses McAfee

I do a hell of a lot of computer repair work and find a lot of infected
machines that have *updated* versions of McAfee or Norton...

so it's a possibility.

As long as McAfee is now uninstalled...
got time to install another AV and run a full scan.

It will at least settle that question
