I seem to have a endless loop with this update that has my computer locked up
.. I installed the update and it gets thru sp1 and sp2 then at the end of sp3
the computer turns off and restarts and downloading sp3 reappears and quickly
goes to 100% then the computer turns off and restarts.... I have tried
letting it run like this and it never complete's .I have tried turning off
the tower but it always starts at the install of sp3. It gives me no options
to end it what can I do ?

Huh? Explain.

Right-click on My Computer, select Properties: What WinXP version is
displayed here?

I turned my computer on and a pop up appears to install update which I did .
It appears full screen sp1 loading till it gets to 100% then it does sp2 till
it gets to 100% finally it does sp3 till 100% and when it is complete it
automatically turns off the computer and restarts . It repeats step 3
continuously... If I could right click on my computer I would , I can't
minimize the screen , it does not give a option to close or cancel . I can't
access any of my icons , my computer or personal settings it is frozen in
this update?

If I had to guess (I do) you are describing the installation of updates on a
Windows Vista system after a reboot and it is stage 1 of 3, stage 2 of 3 and
stage 3 of 3 you see it going through...? Nothing to do with SP1, SP2 and
SP3...

So - please verify you are indeed running Windows Vista or Windows XP
first - and let us know.

After that - please carefully write down what you see on the screen
letter-for-letter when you reboot the troubled machine (and post it back
here)...

I believe much of this confusion centers around you stating what you thought
you saw instead of what you actually saw.

You are correct it is stage 1 stage 2 and stage 3 and it is a Vista . I will
write down what the screen says tonight. I am at my work computer trying to
figure out the problem and going on memory .

The screen reads word for word...Installing service pack..stage 3 of 3 100%
complete Do not turn off your computer Windows Vista Home Premium .
.....the computer will shut off on its own and restart with the same install
in progress but at 0% and quickly be at 100% and the cycle begins again.

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista
