Service Pack 2 for...?

If Windows XP (by some chance) - the Access Denied for Service Pack 2 (and
Service Pack 3) are well documented issues with well documented
work-arounds/solutions found in these newsgroups, the Microsoft web site and
all over the web.

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Service Pack 2 for Windows XP "Access Denied" issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148

Service Pack 3 for Windows XP "Access Denied" issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377
(I suggest Method 3... Likely would fix your Service Pack 2 issues as well.)

And are you really referring to WinXP SP2* or did you mean WinXP SP3? In
any even, see below:

Error message when you try to install WinXP SP3: "Access is denied" or
“Service Pack installation did not complete”
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

Try this fix:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/re...in-windows-xp/

==================
* If the machine's currently running WinXP SP1, you can skip SP2 and over
100 post-SP2 updates and install SP3.

WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful installation
http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron...tallation.aspx

Steps to take before you install WinXP SP3
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.

YES - WINXP 2. I DOWNLOADED THAT PROGRAM OFF THE WINHELPONLINE SITE BUT WAS
UNABLE TO RUN IT BECAUSE THE COMPUTER SAID IT DID NOT KNOW WHAT PROGRAM WAS
USED TO CREATE IT. I TRIED USING THE WEB APPLICATION CHOICE BUT THAT DID NOT
HELP EITHER.

No need to SHOUT! (Post in all caps is considered SHOUTING here.)

Assuming you're running WinXP SP1, try downloading/installing SP3 manually.

Download:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-1e1555d4f3d4

If you run into the same or other problems, open a free support incident.

Did you download a CD image - a filename ending in .iso?

All Microsoft updates should be downloaded directly from Microsoft, BTW, not
from third party sites.

Harry.
