Service Pack2 Error - Cannot copy file

When I try to install service pack 2 I get an error

Cannot Copy File ati3dag.dll
Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change itand insert
windows XP System Files in the drive you specify
Copy files from:
c:\windows\system32


What should I do? I hit retry.. it doesn't work. If I hit cancel it asks if
I want to continue with out copying, I hit yes to continue, then the same
error message comes up with another file that won't copy.

There are specific steps that need to be taken prior to installing Service
Pack 2 for Windows XP. These are detailed on the Windows Update website.
Briefly these are defragging the hard drive, cleaning the drive of any
malware, clearing the internet cache files and disabling any anti-virus
applications you may have running. See the Windows Update website for
details. Following the steps set forth there will give you a better chance
of a trouble free (if there is such a thing) installation of SP2.

Trust me you do not want to install the update. I did.......BIG
REGRET.......had to format my hard drive cuz it woud'nt boot........now it
still wont boot only in safe mode.
