I have tried to install this service pack a number of times without
any result. Sometimes it downloaded, last time it did not even try to
download. When it downloaded, at least once it got to installing part
1 all the way up to 99% then told me: cannot install some parts, will
retry after a reboot, the next try was worse! It then told me will
revert all changes and reboot. The reboot did not work. After about an
hour of looking at: shutting down, I gave up and powered the machine
down myself.
I got a nice letter from Microsoft that basically said: if you bought
the machine with Vista preinstalled, go talk to the manufacturer
(Acer). And they provided some phone numbers. I hate to do that, why
should the equipment manufacturer care what is wrong with either the
service pack, the installation or some error that as created by
previous (I have all updates Microsoft automatically provided)
updates.

Does anybody have any suggestions what I should do, except go back to
the store (it is still under warranty) but they may reinstall Vista
completely and I will lose whatever data and folders I have sitting
somewhere on the disk.

All 3 Support options state:

> No-charge: Unlimited support requests.

Don't take no for an answer, Louis.

Exactly like my problem with my Acer Aspire 3680-2633.
I get error 800B0100, which is very uninformative. Hours with MS tech
with no solution. I had the original hard drve and the back up /
reinstalling DVDs, but that didn't work at all. Luckily I had an
upgraded HD, and that was unchanged and still working.

Next step might be Acer eRecovery disks to set up the original system
again (using the old, spare HD at first). However, Acer's website gives
now 404 when I dig into support.

Did Windows Update offer Vista SP1 or did you attempt to install it
manually?

======================

=> Error message when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1:
"Installation was not successful" or "An internal error occurred while
installing the service pack"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366

=> The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358

=> Unlimited installation and compatibility support for Vista SP1 is
available at no charge through 18 Mar-09 (despite what the letter said!)
