Hi,

I am basically a gamer and so need to have most of the services disabled.

All I need to know is, what are the services that I need to enable in order
to run windows update.

When I try to update I get Error number: 0x8DDD0018.

I have Windows XP Pro with SP1.

Please assist.

Hi Mac,

Ensure that the Startup type for Background Intelligent Transfer Service is
not set to Disabled and that the Startup type for Automatic Updates service
is set to Automatic.

Thanks Patti,
That did help me to get thru and select the update I wanted to install. IT
WORKED! Thanks a MILLION.
Hey but I have another small problem... tell me what is the minimum free
space required to install SP2. I have 350 MB free space on my c: but when I
try to install SP2 it says that it needs 180 MB of free space.
I am putting the Uninstall information in my e: but that too does not help.
I guess this is some sort of a Service issuse.
Please help.
You can email me directly at
Thanks in advance.........

You're very welcome, Mac! :-)

Here is the MSKB article that describes the amount of hard disk space
required to install SP2:
