When I try to run windows update on one of my PC, I got this error in the
ie6 browser:

the site cannot continue because one or more of these windows services is
not running:

automatic updates
background intelligent transfer
event log

Indeed, those services were disabled (the machine is used for video editing
so I turn off anything unnecessary). But even after I turn these services
back on and started all of them, I still get the same error message.

Are there other services needed by windows update that it is not telling me?

You receive a "The necessary services are disabled or unavailable" error message when you
connect to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site or to the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883822
The necessary services are disabled or unavailable. Error 0x80246007
The necessary services are disabled or unavailable. Error 0x80246008

Apart from Bits and Automatic updates -

"Remote Procedure Call" (RPCSS) should be enabled, Automatic
"COM+ Event System" (EventSystem) should be enabled, Manual
"System Event Notification Service" (SENS) should be enabled, Automatic
"Volume Shadow Copy" (VSS) should be enabled, Manual
"Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" (SWPRV) should be enabled, manual.
