set default mail program

I have just begun to use vista on a new computer. I have three email
programs. One, of course, is the default, but I don't want that to be the
default mail program. When I attempted to make the other program default I
received a message that I could not do so because I needed to have
"Administrator" or "Power user" privileges to do so. I am the administrator.
What the heck is this computer talking about?
