Setting views of filenames to show their extensions and to show hidden
files etc was easy in XP.I don't see how to do same in Vista.

Someone help this dummy.

Open my computer, press the 'ALT' button, tools, folder options, view....is
one way...;-)

You must have a different Vista version than I do. All I see there is
a way to associate an application with a file. That's not what I want
to do. I just want to see extensions shown with the rest of the
filenames.

All I see there is a way to organize files/folders. That's not what I
want to do either.

It's under the viewing options. 8th option down.

All I see is start> 'Microsoft clip organizer'. You must be telling
me to go to something else. Sorry to be so dumb.

Why does something that was so simple under XP and 98 have to be so
obscure?????

go to the control panel and click on folder options. Click on the view tab
and the two options are right there! I remember XP had the same option
setup.
