Yes you can.
The "ringer" will use whatever default sound device that you have default in Windows. Voice
conversations will use whatever device you have setup in the Audio/Video Setup wizard. You
can get to the wizard by clicking the Tools menu (or press Alt-T on the keyboard if the menu
is hidden) in any Messenger window, and choose Audio and Video setup.
