Set-up Error_setup controller has encountered problem during insta

Please help. I keep getting the following error.
"The setup controller has encountered a problem during install. Please
review the log files for further information on the error." I have
uninstalled, reinstalled using different office suites from the ms download
page, purchased and ran a registry cleaner, etc. Still the same thing. I have
been trying to test the office suites on a trial basis to see if I want to
purchase. However, for the past few months, periodically I will try to
download a trial version (after uninstalling the prior), install, and still
the same Set-up error. I am afraid that even if I purchase @ a store, without
a true trial period to test, I will still get the same error message.
Please advise. I am at my wits end.
