I don't think it is going to work at all---Windows Mail seems to use a
storage file of some sort for its contacts, something like the old *.wab
address books. I believe the Contact gadget you are referring to reads
directly from that file.
Windows Live Mail seems to use a folder with individual contact files
C:\Users\{user profile}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live
Mail\Contacts\\real
I don't think it is capable of reading them individually.
