Setting message rules

My messages are starting at 12th October when I first joined group. I have
clicked Hide Read or Ignored Messages and also delete if arrived over five
days but nothing has changed. Have to scroll through all these messages
everytime to get to the recent ones.
Be grateful for some help.

Hi Sylvia,

Click Tools/Message Rules/News, click on the rule to delete if over 5 days
old, then click "apply now". Click on the rule to select it, then on the
line where it says "apply to folders", click on browse and select either the
group or the server. Click ok/allply now. It may take some time to run
depending on the size of the newsgroup volume.

If it's just scrolling down to the bottom that is the problem click on
the 'Sent' header to reverse the order, though I don't really believe
that's what you meant
