setting up file sharing

I have tried for days to set up file sharing between two desktops and a
laptop. All have windows Vista Home Premium. two are 64 bit desktops and
the other 32 bit.
In frustration I went back to Pure Networks Network Magic and in about
10 minutes was sharing word, xcel, outlook, and pictures between all
three.
I am trying to keep everything Microsoft but really cannot get this to
work.
I printed about 12 pages of various instructions but no success.
I have a Netgear wireless router and I think set as a private network
as is scares me when it brings up boxes stating open networks.
At 68 years young i am looking for good instruction sources.
Any help will be appreciated. Had written to Microsoft and was told to
call an 800 number and they would be glad to help but have not decided
to do that yet.
Larry.

You had better make the phone call. What do you have to loose?

Please take a look at the tutorials on the following site. They are
step-by-step and include screenshots. This link is specifically for File
Sharing, but there are MANY tutorials for a wide range of Vista issues.

Even if you end up calling that 800-number, you'll understand better what
they are telling you to do. Best of luck.

Data files can be shared, programs cannot. They need to be installed under
the OS and system you want to run the application on. You can share images
on machine A to machine's B and C. You cannot share an application on A and
expect theme to run from B or C.

What is "this" that is not working?

Setting up sharing is as simple as making sure all the systems are using the
same workgroup name, with each machine having a different name on the
workgroup (check through the system applet in the control panel), then open
the Network and Sharing center on each and enable network discovery and file
sharing.

johndavid
I deleted Network magic. set up a guest user on desktop B
Desktop A I enabled network discovery and file sharing and printer
sharing.
I then selected msoffice and excel to share on A and also outlook.pst
file.
On B i can bring up outlook and see calandar and contacts ok
On b when I try to open word or excel I have to go into computer
network and then select a and then the folder msoffice.
I did not send an e-mail as it suggested to the user B and I think that
the link that would have been sent would allow easier opening of the
msoffice folder?

I had no problems and the one support person that I talked to when I needed
help with Vista was an American and was right on the money with his help.
One shoe doesn't fit all.
