Setup Cannot copy the file Update_SP2QFE.inf error.

Hi,

Wondered if anyone can help wit the following

On a friends PC he had to roll back from SP2 and run his OAM setup disks for
windows that came with the PC which reset everything. After reloading his
adsl modem drivers he tried going to MS site and downloading updates but when
trying to install KB898461 it failed (I have included the original log at the
bottom of screen).

After trying various suggestions i downloaded the KB from the MS site and
installed manually but getting the following error when trying to implement -
Setup Cannot copy the file Update_SP2QFE.inf error.

1. So far i have checked the c:\windows\$hf_mig$\ directory for files but
nothing was in there.
2. Renamed spupdsvc.exe and tried installing again
3. Tried stopping the windows update service, renamed the software
distribution dir and restarted but still update not worked.
4. Removed windows installer 3.1 and re-installed from MS site.
5. The last thing i tried was to install the KB manually after downloading
from MS site. but got the following error :-

Setup Cannot the file Update_SP2QFE.inf

any ideas?
