Search your entire hard disk for these files:

flash.ocx
swflash.ocx

and delete any of those names that you find.

Then try the update one more time.

1. If the file C:\WINDOWS\KB923789.log exists, please post the most recent
relevant section from it. There is probably one section per attempt to
install, identified by date and time. You can look at it in Notepad.

2. Try the following alternative way of updating the Flash Player. Open "My
Computer" and navigate to:
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
Right-click on "Shockwave Flash Object" and select "Update".

Tried both options, in 1, file does not exist.
in 2, shockwave flash object is not there to click on.

In which case, you don't have the Flash Player installed.

Try visiting http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ and wait for loading to
complete.
You might wish to uncheck any offer to install free toolbars on the way.

Well Robin, it seems yet again...despite following your instructions my
problems continue. As suggested i clicked on the link, installed, then
attempted to install the security update again without success.Upon reviewing
my update history its apparent that that all 7 faied attempts have an error
code Ox643...means nothing to me i'm afraid, how about you? Quite frustrating
is'nt it?

If you now open "My Computer", and navigate to:
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
and look at the entry for "Shockwave Flash Player", what version number is
now installed? (scroll right if necessary)

If you now visit http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ and you click
"About" under "Adobe Flash Player", what version number does it say is
installed?

If the answer to both these questions is that you see "9.0.45" then you have
the latest Flash Player installed, and no update is necessary.
