Click on the blue Vista start button.
In the "Start Search" box type: CMD
When the Command Prompt appears, right-click on it
and select "Run as administrator", then type: SFC /SCANNOW
in the Command Prompt window and hit Enter.

You need to use the 'elevated' prompt for cmd.exe.

Click the start button then in the search box type cmd. Cmd will appear at
the top of the menu. Right click on the cmd.exe and, from the drop down
menu, select 'run as administrator' the command prompt should now open. Then
type sfc /scannow
