sfc scannow

In one of the questions I asked, someone ( I think it's Bob ) suggested sfc
scannow. I didn't get to use it as the problem was solved. Today I tried it
just for curiosity. I opened Start menu, enter sfc scannow on the search
box,saw the program name at the top, right click then click Open. NOTHING
happened. What did I go wrong ?

Rightclick the Command Prompt icon on the start menu, 'run as
administrator', and at that prompt, type:

SFC /SCANNOW

You probably forgot the "/"

In the Start Search box type: CMD
When the Command Prompt appears, right-click on it
and select "Run as administrator", then type in SFC SCANNOW
in the Command Prompt window and hit Enter.

One last question before I give it a try. The " run as Administrator "
worries me, because as I understand it "run as " is not the same as being
the Adm. Since I am the Adm., do I have to change back as the Adm.

Although you're logged on to an administrator account, you need to run the SFC program under elevated rights. When the User Account Control message appears, just click "Continue". OTOH if you are logged on as a standard user, enter the appropriate credentials, and then click Submit.

I followed the instructions to the letter.
1. Start search box enter cmd
2.right click on the cmd command prompy
3.click Run as Administrator
4.type in sfc scannow at the prompt which was after
c:\windows\system32>
5. hit Enter
All I saw was the prompt flashing again at the bottom of the black&white
window. Nothing else was happening, it just sat there starring back at me !
Well, what did I miss ?

It's sfc\ scannow NOT sfc scannow. Make sure you have a space after "\"

you missed typing the command correctly:

sfc /scannow

I would go to orb>accessories> right click on the cmd prompt there and
choose run as admin.

Ok. First the slash is this way " / ", I did the other way and it said
" sfc\ is not recognized " Rich was right on that.
The messages on the screen were basically scanning the integrety of this
,verify the integrety of that----. The bottom line was it said" no repair
operation is performed.". Something caught my eye was this :---
sfc/ scannow
sfc/ verifyfile =c:\windows\system32\Kerne132.dll
sfc/ scanfile = d:\windows\system32\Kerne132.dll
offbootdir =d:\/offwindir =d:\windows
Of course I have no idea what that means, just wonder why single out that
Kerne132.dll
