The only piece of functionality that I want that is not on Home Premium is
Shadow Copy. Is there a way of getting Shadow Copy for Home Premium or are
my only choices 1. upgrade to Ultimate, 2. get a separate product like
Acronis?

Thank you,

Jeff

AFAIK you can't install an Ultimate feature into Home versions. Frankly,
Acronis TrueImage is a better solution anyway.

It keeps copies (or versions) of all files you work on, so you can "go back"
if you screw up.

Unfortunately, Microsoft didn't include the GUI to restore lost files in
the Home Basic/Premium editions, even though the Volume Shadow Copy
Service (VSS) is also included and fully running! But luckily there is a
third party tool at 'ShadowExplorer.com' (http://www.shadowexplorer.com)
which allows you to browse the Shadow Copies and restore files if
needed!

Version 0.1 should be a warning to anyone to stay clear.

You can do this for free anyhow, since it's built into all Vista versions.
It's just the ui that's missing in Home Premium.

eg I can mount any restore point on Home Premium and explore them like any
drive. The methods are out there.
