I had the same problem with my sharing folders, so I tried following the
advice given above, but in doing so, came across a few obstacles, one of
which was that the command run thingy did not understand when i typed
%appdata%\..\local\Microsoft\Messenger into it, therefore, I had to figure
out another way of getting to the location that Jonathan (Expert guy) was
talking about.
I DID eventually solve the problem though! Yay!
Here's a bit of help from a non-techie's point of view... (Sorry Jonathan,
Mr. Expert dude!)
* NB - first of all, minimize or close all other open applications (minimize
this web browser page so you can follow the instructions here as you go) -
this will make things easier down the line when you have to drag and drop
something onto your desktop. *
1. Go to the Windows Live Messenger main window (i.e. the one where you see
your contact list etc, as opposed to just a conversation window)
2. Click on the little sharing folders icon there - it's the one with a
brown folder and 2 little msn guys - click it, and it should open up a window
showing you the folders that you have - one for each contact who you are
sharing files with.
3. Click on one of the folders (any one, it doesnt matter which) to open it,
and wait a few seconds. It does take a few seconds so you think its not gonna
work but it does actually open up a window with all the files in it. (Or at
least, it does it on my PC but maybe my PC is weird... If this doesnt happen
for you than I can't help you any further, but if it does work then proceed
to step 4!
4. The address bar at the top of this window will say something along the
lines of:
blah blah something something... AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\your
email address here\blah blah ....
here's what you do: in that address bar, you hit backspace until your email
address is the last thing written in that line, and then hit enter.
(That's basically like hitting the back button, like Jonathan (see above)
was talking about, except hitting the back button doesnt work cause it
doesn't go to the exact location you're looking for.. it's as though it goes
a few steps back instead of just the one step back.)
So anyway once you've hit enter there will be some folders and files etc
there. Now. Leave that window open, but minimise it for the moment.
5. Go to Windows Live Messenger and exit it (cause you've used it to find
the location of the folder and now you no longer require it's services for
the moment

) You need to do this in order for the next few steps to happen.
6. Return to the other window, the one with the folders in it, and what you
do is, like Jonathan says, drag the ObjectStore folder to the desktop.
7. Now click on the address bar of that window, and take out your email
address (by highlighting it and hitting backspace) and then hit enter and
you'll now be at a window within which there is a folder named as your email
address. Delete that folder. Leave this window open.
8. Run Windows Live Messenger again. Give it a few seconds. (It will
automatically create a new folder named as your email address where the old
one used to be - you don't have to do anything.)
9. Open that new folder named as your email address once it appears in the
window. You'll see that it has 2 folders - one of which is called
ObjectStore. Drag and drop the ObjectStore folder that was on your desktop
into the new ObjectStore folder. It will then ask you if you want to replace
the stuff in the new folder with the stuff you're about to put into it. Click
Yes.
10. Try sharing a folder with someone, and hopefully all will run smoothly!
For your information, this does mean starting new sharing folders which is a
tiny bit of a nuisance if you have lots of stuff to start sharing all over
again! But still, it's better than not being able to share stuff at all!
Hope this is helpful!
