Sharing folders, and long filenames

Hi there,

Got a bug for you, I'm using the latest version of Live Messenger.

A contact of mine has sent me a file with an extremely long filename,
and although this filename if used close to the root of the hard drive does
not exceed 256 characters, once gone through the "sharing folder" system and
stored in my temporary folder which is extremely long in it's own right, it
exceeds 256 characters!

So now I have a file, that is seemingly impossible to delete, DOS even
tells me it can't delete it because the filename is too long.

This seems like a really fundamental issue to me, and very amateurish,
how on earth do I get rid of this file now?

BTW, tried...

* Delete in live messenger sharing folder, FAIL
* Delete using explorer, FAIL
* Delete using DOS command prompt, FAIL

Hmmm.

Nick.

Hi again,

Got rid of the thing now!

Had to use DOS, and use the short path name, which in this case was the
first 6 chars, plus "~1".

Thank god for that, but definitely a bug with live messenger none the
less.

Nick.

Hu Jonathan,

No delete option on right click, dragging to recycle bin does nothing,
and pressing delete does nothing. So pretty eventless really.

Also when you right click any files within that folder it's as if the
context menu has been overridden so that it matches that in WLM sharing
folder. Which is great, but it's explorer and should have explorers
functionality, otherwise I wouldn't have browsed that deep through the file
system in the first place. Explorer is Explorer and WLM is, well, WLM.

Nick.
