Sharing folders crashes PC

When I try to share a folder my PC crashes to the blue screen of death. The
error message gives a number only. I have to then go into the shared folder
area on disk and remove the shared folder or the computer crashes as soon as
I log on to live messenger. This seems to have started when my son started
the share from his pc in hong kong. Everything else seems OK, but, I would
really like to get file sharing working. Any ideas anyone?

Dave,

I've made a few posts concerning this problem; however I have not seen any
official acknowledgement or root cause. The only thing I have to go on so
far is that some sorts of Virus Scanning utilities may cause this issue. I
have McAfee v11 and I cannot find a setting that will allow the two to
co-exist so far.

Thanks Brad, at least its nice to know I'm not the only one getting this
problem. I do not have McAfee (although I once did) so no common thread
there. I have now found that I can send one file at a time (not using
sharing) so the problem is not so great now, but I would still love to be
able to use shared folders.

Hi DaveJ! I too have the problem with Shared Folders (WLM 8.0.812.00) on
a Windows XP Home SP2 machine, although I tried it without any AV or FW
running.

I had a small glimmer of hope recently when I finally abandoned McAfee for
Live OneCare and Defender. My system has run great for several days and WLM
Shared Folders even let me sync files again - for about two days. Today I
started getting the blue screen crashes again so SF are disabled again.
Online Crash Analysis keeps reassuring me that there is no solution and that
the problem is due to an "unknown device driver."

This is VERY frustrating!
