My best bet would be that your system is FAT32, and not NTFS. Here is the
snippet I have copied from the help page:
To use Sharing Folders, you and your contact must both use a system
partition (A partition can be a section of your hard drive, or the entire
drive. Partitions are usually created before the operating system is
installed. For most home users, the hard drive has only one partition.) that
is formatted with the NTFS (An advanced file system that provides
performance, security, reliability, and other advanced features) file
system. Typically, hard disks have a single partition that is formatted with
the NTFS file system. To determine whether your hard disk uses an NTFS
system partition, double-click My Computer, right-click the hard disk where
Windows is installed, and then click Properties. See whether NTFS is listed
under File system.
To convert your hard disk to NTFS from a command prompt:
1.. On the taskbar, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
2.. Type convert c: /FS:NTFS, where C: is your hard drive, and then press
ENTER.
3.. Restart your computer.
