I have set up a home network ok , Windows XP on my main (this computer) and
Windows Vista Home premium on my other PC (a laptop . But for the life of me
I cant set either up to share the printer, and if possible the music and
photos, can someone please enlighten me how I go about this please . TIA.

You have to have the same account with the same password on the two
computers, because you don't have a windows server and a domain.
In Windows XP pro in the folder option, you have to uncheck the simple
sharing, when you did that, you have to add the Netbios protocol in the
property of your network card or edit an lmhost file.
(Chose the same workgroup on the two PC, it's easyer)
Normally, it should be ok like this, but on my network I have to use a
lmhost file, because Vista doesn't work well with NetBios even if it's
well installed.

Try Network Magic http://www.networkmagic.com/ free for 7 days, not sure if
it supports 2 platforms at the same time. Worked for me using 2 Vista
enabled machines.
