I spoke too soon, Steve. Though the folder is showing up on the XP machine,
the path to the folder on the Vista machine is not correct; my attempts to
place a backup copy of Quicken from XP to Vista meets with a message it
can't find the file. Here's what I've got:
I followed your instructions to share a folder called "Quicken Data Files".
That showed up on my XP machine as "Quicken Data Files on Xps435mt". But the
path (target) to that folder when I right click on that listing and select
"Properties" is \\XPS435MT\Quicken Data Files. That won't get me there,
apparently.
I'm very green to Vista and don't use the machine much so I'm really
ignorant of the sharing options. I've read them but probably don't
appreciate all the nuances of them yet and well may have something wrong.
Here's what I know about the settings:
When I look at the Sharing Center, I find these settings:
Network discovery Custom
File Sharing On
Public Folder Sharing Off
Printer Sharing On
Password protected sharing Off
Media Sharing Off
When I click on the sentence that lets me see what files I'm sharing I get
these items in the folders named to the right:
Adobe Reader 9 Installer Desktop (C:\Users\Jgreg)
Quicken Data File Documents (C:\Users\Jgreg)
Documents Jgreg (C:\Users)
(How Adobe ever got there is beside me. I don't think it belongs there, does
it?)
When attempted to unshare the "Quicken Data Folder", I got this message:
Some items are still shared:
Quicken Data Folder
C:\Users\Jgreg\Documents\Quicken Data Folder
This folder is in a shared folder.
That last statement caused me to think I'm over my head. Can you point me in
the right direction please.
