When making a shortcut in XP, the shortcut name was the original file name.
But in Vista, the label 'short cut' (filename - Shortcut) is added to the
shortcut file name. How do I turn off the addition of '- Shortcut' to a
shortcut?

Not quite. By default, XP also included the "shortcut to" label, but this
system setting was easily changed by using the TweakUI powertoy.

In either system, the shortcut label can be easily changed by right-clicking
the icon and choosing rename.

I see that PowerToys and TweakUI is not available for Vista. Is there
another method in Vista to turn off the addition of '- Shortcut' suffix to a
shortcut?

Why not just use Rename as suggested? What's wrong with that?

Asking a question?
Please tell us the version of the application you are asking about,
your OS, Service Pack level
and the FULL contents of any error message(s)

Probably wants to make it both global and automatic for newly created ones.
It's a simple registry value change as described in the link I provided.

Personally, I like to know which is which (real vs shortcut) when I am
scanning through files on my systems.

I use Vista Shortcut Manager:
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...r/1165413050/1
A small little program that's just made for this.

It can also be achieved by using TweakVI:
http://www.totalidea.com/product.php?Product=TweakVI
(I didn't realize this until *after I downloaded the shortcut manager)
