Shortcuts to files and programs work fine, lots of opportunity to
read and set properties. Why, oh why, does a shortcut to a folder
not show the target in the properties page?

Hi Chris,

They do. Are you sure that the folder is a shortcut?

Well I agree (I just tried it) that shortcuts dragged out of
explorer onto the desktop work as advertised; the ones that caused
me grief were hidden/system ones presumably added by Windows as part
of the "lets pretend we're XP to keep people happy" programme. The
real pain was finding one that pointed to itself and caused my
backup to tie itself in knots!
