shortcuts on shared server drive don't resolve correctly?

Hi All: I have an SBS 2003 R2 server with two partitions on the primary
drive, creating a "C" and "D" drive (the DVD drive maps to "E"). Some
directories on the "C" drive are shared so client computers can get to them.

I was running out of space on the "C" partition, so I moved some
sub-directories in the shared directory to the "D" partition and made a
shortcut on "C" pointing to them. This obviously works fine on the server
itself.

When a client computer accesses the shared folders across the network, the
folders with shortcuts won't resolve if users click on them. The problem is
the local computer user's "D" drive is usually their CD/DVD drive, and when
they click on the shared shortcut, which resolves to "D:\thefolder" on the
server, they get an error, because it resolves to their local "D" drive
instead.

Is there any way around this? The users generally have the server's shared
folder mapped to their computer as a local drive, and I don't want them to
have to map a second location just for these directories.

Shortcuts are specific to the server. You will need to create new drive
mappings for the users to the new location. You have to also set the Shared
permissions and Security tab permissions appropriately to allow them access.

You are welcome. If you have any questions regarding Share or Security
