Hi,
We are about to purchase a new PC. We have read about the many problems
with Windows Vista. We are concerned about this and wonder if we should
purchase a new PC with XP which seems to be more stable and proven. Could
anyone help us with this decision? Thanks you.

Any new PC that comes with Vista would (presumably) have good enough
hardware to support it...
but there are still a few bugs in the OS...So I'd probably wait until SP1
comes out before going with it.

As to stability...I have *never* had even the slightest problem with XP...
so though Vista may be rock solid...I would not be able to say that it's
better

Windows Vista would be your best choice when preinstalled
on a new computer that is labeled "Vista Certified".

I have been running it for nearly year now, and although application support
started out a bit rocky and some device drivers were still not ready, most
of my problems have been resolved over time and Vista has been rock solid
ever since. You are using the best route to purchase Windows Vista since it
will come preinstalled on a new PC that is designated Certified for Windows
Vista.

Why would Vista be the best choice when we have read about so many problems
with Vista? Thanks.

Whether or not Vista is the best OS out there is a matter for debate...
however...the best route for going with Vista would be a new machine that's
"Vista Certified"

I seriously advise you to go to a computer store and take a test drive...
as of yet...I don't think all the bugs in moving large amounts of data have
been solved.

What problems? If you are referring to those posted in a support newsgroup,
its like visiting a hospital. You don't see very many non-sick people laying
in a hospital bed.

Could you list some of the problems you have read about?

For me the reason I choose Vista is because its fundamentally more secure,
the multimedia experience is much richer.
- Standard User account, (this is a fundamental flaw in XP where users are
setup automatically as Full Administrator of the system, Windows Vista ends
this).
- User Account Control, rogue applications, malware, viruses cannot easily
penetrate the system

- Better ways of working with multimedia, photos, video, music is so much
better in Windows Vista and a plethora of other reasons, if you want to
learn more, read my Windows Vista review at the following link:

Vista had an indifferent start for some, but it works well now. Most of the
negative stuff here is old news and not applicable anymore

Go with Vista..
