i recently had to use my restore disks to get my computer back to original
settings. (my display folder was not working). now i keep getting several
updates to install for windows xp. my questions are these....should i have
so many updates? are they neccessary? do they harm my computer in any way?
and last, when i go to my control panel to add/remove programs, this is where
all the updates are going, listed as "security updates for windows xp" and
"windows xp hotfix". is this normal? my roomate has windows xp yet gets no
updates and nothing is going into the add/remove program list. this is why i
am wondering if i even need these updates, i am afraid too many of these will
cause my computer to run slowly, or it caused my display folder to not work
like before which is why i had to restore in the first place. thank you
much, valerie

Since you restored your computer, it lost all the security updates that were
previously installed. Yes, you *do* need them.
