Hi there, IMHO you should install all critical updates. You can then select the
optional components you want. Hardware components should be updated from the
manufacturers site.
As for SP2 -
Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not available to install from Windows Update and is not
offered by Automatic Updates

| In the past I would pick and choose the updates that I installed on my
| machines. But, that is such a pain in the butt that I'm wondering whether
| I'm just spending my time needlessly. Should I continue to pick and choose
| or should I just install every update available? I know some people have
| said they install everything while others kind of pick and choose. What is
| recommended?
|
| Both my machines are running XP Pro SP1 but I'd like to get both of them to
| SP2. In Windows Update one of my machines has a SP2 update available, but
| the other one doesn't. Any thoughts on that?
|
| Thanks,
| Mike
