Should I re-install XP2?

I tried to upgrade XP Home to XP2 but after the system said I succeeded and I
restarted the computer it started to re-boot in a loop.
I could not access the recovery console (Toshiba) and decided to re-install
XP Home.
Is there a safe way to install SP2?

Did you disable (shut down) firewalls and antivirus software before
installing XP SP2? I would shut down any other unnecessary processes as well,
and create a restore point (the service pack creates it's own) before
installing SP2.

If you experience another failed install, you can boot into safe mode and
restore the system. When you see the Toshiba splash screen, you have a brief
moment to press F12 (or F2) which should give you boot options.

Prepare the computer by following the Service Pack Installation
