The selfupdate tree will be updated in WSUS 3 Service Pack 2 to provide the
latest WUA applicable for WSUS-based systems.

Actually, this is the *CURRENT* version for WSUS-based client systems.

The key is in understanding why there is a v7.2.6001.788 client. This client
was released in Summer, 2008, expressly to assist with issues affecting only
WU/MU clients.

No, actually it does not auto-download anything. It's deployed with updates
to WSUS, usually via Service Packs. While it's theoretically possible that a
selfupdate-only update could be released, only once in the history of WSUS
has a WUA been released outside the standard release cycle of WSUS -- and
that was the WUA v7.2 released last summer.

You need do nothing, but wait for WSUS 3 Service Pack 2 to be released, at
which time the selfupdate tree will be updated to distribute the
Windows7/Win2008R2 client, WUA v7.4.
