Should update delete passwords?

I ran the Microsoft update. My Administrator's and User's passwords were
deleted, and my desktop was changed back to the standard one. Is this part of
the update? If not, what happened?

Thank you.

Elizabeth;
No, this not a part of any update from Microsoft.
Something else, and I do not know what, caused this.

Have you checked for viruses, spyware and other malware?

Yes. I checked for spyware with Microsoft's spyware tool, and I have
ZoneAlarm antivirus. Nothing showed up.

Hi. I'm running XP Home and the same thing happened to me when I ran the
April 8th Updates. The next time I rebooted my computer, the login asked for
my password and wouldn't accept it. I finally got in using the 'Domain
Administrator' in safe mode and reset my admin and user passwords. Once I
got back online, all of my Windows Live email account passwords were gone,
too.
I use Norton Systemworks to check for viruses and malware. No indication of
anything wrong with my system.

Please begin a new thread about /your/ problem instead of replying to a
year-old thread started by someone else who may not be running WinXP and who
certainly did not installed any April-08 updates. Thank you.

Start a new thread? That's a new one on me. Most groups with 662 pages of
topics don't mind keeping them slim. Your post was infinitely sarcastic and
unhelpful as well. The fact that this thread IS a year old indicates to me
this problem is one Microsoft hasn't made any effort to fix, either.
Operating system and time apparently aren't germaine to the issue.
