Shows updates, does nothing.

Windows Update shows four security patches via the Taskbar icon. When I
click on it to update, nothing happens.

Same issue when I go to the Windows Update site. In this instance, it shows
5 updates, but lists their total size as 0 kb and doesnt' download any of
them.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hey, I have this problem too and have been griping about it on this site for
ages, so far i have found no solutions at all .... if you do find out please
let me know!

I would like to help. Can you tell me a few things about your
configuration?

Specifically,

1) Which Operating System:
a) Windows XP
b) Windows 2000
c) Windows ME
d) Windows 98

2) Which service pack:
a) Service Pack 1 (XP and 2000)
b) Service Pack 2 (XP and 2000)
c) Service Pack 3 (2000 only)
d) Service Pack 4 (2000 only)

3) What changed on the system just before you started to hit this issue?
(ex. Did you
install a patch on your machine? Did you install new Antivirus software or
possibly downloaded a virus?

XP, SP1

This as been going on for quite some time and I can't recall a specific
trigger.

Other stuff happens like trying to manually install .NET SP1 and continually
having the install freeze halfway through. (I was trying to fix .NET because
another program that uses it won't install an upgrade.)

In another post, I asked about why Windows Update doesn't recognize that I
don't have SP2. It doesn't offer it.

I think I accidentally deleted something when trying to clean up my computer
a few weeks back. Might be time for the dreaded purge and reinstall the OS.
