Hi:
The HP Presario with Vista Home Premium:

Even after shutting-down the PC,..... Start - Shut-down, a green light in
the middle of the PC is still on, although the PC has been shut-down
completely. I need to turn-off its light by pulling off power-cable
connected with the PC.

Does this indicate 'malfunction' light inside the PC?

Thanks,

By the middle of the pc, do you mean on the box or on the monitor?

If it's on the monitor, the computer is shut down, but the monitor is on
stand-by. Monitors have their own on/off buttons.

If it's on the box then your shut-down setting might actually be
hibernate, in which case, unplugging the machine will do more harm than
good.

A shutdown computer is still on a bit. Like a TV.

But it will not show a power light on the front panel, only on the mother board.
Sound more like the OP has the switch set for sleep, not shutdown.

Thanks all for the responses.

It's strange to say that when clicking 'Shut-down,' it certainly shutting
down, ... not sleep. Because, I need to push 'button' on the front panel in
order to start-up Vista after shutting-down Vista completely. Otherwise,
the PC/Vista does not come up to the screen, even tapping a mouse more than
several times.

Monitor is nothing wrong, ... works GREAT.

Any clues on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

When a machine is shut down power is still supplied to the motherboard.
This can include USB devices, which may have a LED to show that power is
applied.

Often, the BIOS can be set to allow mouse movement or pressing a key on
the keyboard to start the machine from shut down, not just sleep.

If power was not supplied, the power button would not work as this just
closes a switch to send a signal to start the system.

Of course, your computer might not be set to do that...

BTW, there's nothing wrong with turning off the power in hibernate
mode. In hibernate, the machine's state is saved on the hard drive.

OTOH, in sleep, the machine's state is saved in RAM, and will be lost
if power is removed.

I have read that Vista (or maybe it's 7 or both) does a hybrid sleep;
sleep saves the state in RAM, but also copies it to disk, as in
hibernate. On restart after a loss of power, the system detects the
loss, and restores the state from disk. Otherwise, it restarts from the
state in RAM. In that situation, it's OK to turn off power in sleep
mode.
