Shut-down problem

My computer was freezing and crashing a lot so I got a registry cleaner
hoping to fix it. It helped but it still often won't shut down- gets stuck on
"windows is shutting down". I run 98+. Any ideas on what's causing it and how
to fix it?

Hi;

Unfortunately "freezing and crashing a lot" doesn't provide enough
information to diagnose the problem. Plus if you have used a 3rd party
so-called "registry cleaner" you may have done more damage than good.

It may be easiest and quickest to save all your personal files and
important items offline, then wipe the drive where you have Win98
installed and do a clean install. If you have never done that before,
you may want to get a knowledgable friend, coworker, or pay a technician
to help with this.

Since this really isn't a Windows Update issue, suggest you post in the
news:\\msnews.microsoft.com\microsoft.public.win98 .gen_discussion
newsgroup.
