Hello. I am having shut down problems after installing the latest updates.
I have windows xp pro sp 2 - all updates completed.

I read the info about the microsoft genuine validation and I re-validated.

I still cannot get the laptop (gateway) to shut down or restart. It stays
on the blue screen that says microsoft windows - it doesn't say saving
settings, shutting down, etc. as it usually does.

Any help would be appreciated. It looks like this is a fairly common
problem. Thanks.

Thanks for posting the info.

I have gone to all these links though. I've spent most of the day reading
the info from Microsoft's support site and knowledge base - and nothing has
worked. The other links contain info that hasn't been updated in awhile and
hasn't been any help as well.

I haven't had this problem until the latest critical update a couple days
ago. There has to be something else that is going on.

I have exactly the same problem with Sony Vaio laptop. Besides Windows
update, I have also installed Adobe Acrobat and Reader updates, but I doubt
these cause problems.
