You could check in the event logs if there are any logs about this problem,
under Applications and services
logs\Microsoft\Windows\Diagnostics-Performance\Operational
If you are unfamilliar with the event log I can explain how to get there.
You can also enable detailed messages when Windows starts up and shuts down.
